Curriculum
Curriculum design statement: intent, implementation, impact
We offer a vision for excellence and high aspirations for all through a curriculum based on Gospel values and Catholic teachings. At Guardian Angels our coherent, structured, curriculum promotes the academic, social, moral, spiritual, religious and physical development of each child, leading to sustained mastery for all and a greater depth of understanding for those who are capable. Through the teaching of Religious Education, Catholic Social Teachings and Gospel Virtues, we ensure pupils have a secure understanding of shared values and grow to become highly skilled, cultured, educated global citizens, ready for the modern world.
Our Guardian Angels Catholic Curriculum is based on Gospel Values, teaches subjects discretely and has reading at the core. Our Subject content has been chosen to stimulate, engage and enthuse pupils and are supplemented by a range of experiences such as trips and visitors to school.
Reading is at the heart of each theme and pupils are exposed to a wide range of quality texts which promote a passion for reading, expand their ‘cultural capital’ and develop a sophisticated, mature vocabulary from which pupils can articulate their thoughts and ideas. Core and foundation subjects are explicitly taught to secure a sound understanding of subject specific knowledge and skills within a framework that is designed to maximise learning. Core concepts are sequenced to ensure regular repetition within and across year groups and themes and key stages, thus enabling pupils to ‘know more and remember more’ and develop a deeper understanding of each subject in the context of the world around them.
