Technology
Design and Technology plays an important part of a broad and balanced curriculum. Here at Guardian Angels we encourage children to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject!
Design Technology incorporates innovative creativity and risk-taking leading to a high level of resourcefulness enabling learners to become channels of divine inspiration. Design Technology calls forth imagination, resourcefulness, and creativity whilst drawing on a wide variety of complementary disciplines. Design Technology challenges students to engage with issues of inclusion, stewardship, the dignity of the human person and ecology.
In Design and Technology, by the end of EYFS children will:
Understand how to keep themselves safe when using equipment. Use a range of small tools, including scissors, paint brushes and cutlery
In Design and Technology, by the end of Key Stage 1 children will:
Select from and use a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks [for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing]. Build structures, exploring how they can be made stronger, stiffer and more stable. Select from and use a wide range of materials and components, including construction materials, textiles and ingredients, according to their characteristics. Explore, use and make mechanisms in my products. understand where food comes from. Use the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet to prepare dishes.
In Design and Technology, by the end of Lower Key Stage 2 children will:
Begin to use more complicated joins safely using equipment such as glue guns, junior hacksaws, hand drills and sanding equipment. Build working mechanical systems using a variety of different equipment safely. Modify original designs based on suitability for purpose. Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet.
In Design and Technology, by the end of Upper Key Stage 2 children will:
Select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks [for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing], accurately. Select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks [for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing], accurately. Prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of cooking techniques. Understand seasonality, and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed. Evaluate ideas and products against design criteria and consider the views of others to improve work.
